Mclaggan Smith Mugs have been making bone china printed and decorated mugs from 1974, that’s longer than most members of Family Clan have been alive! Based in the West of Scotland, they are the UK market leaders in the printing and decoration of bespoke and personalised Bone China mugs.
Mclaggan Smith Mugs is an award winning family company. They also have the widest stock range of all UK mug companies and work with many outstanding and world renowned designers and artists including Orla Kiely and Quentin Blake. Go to their website to see.
Together with their brand new mug personalisation service, Tea pot and Jugs are being added to their expanding mug ranges.
We was asked to choose a mug for us to review, the wide range of choice was amazing, but as soon as we saw this train history mug we knew straight away that this would suit our very own train buff, Jake down to a tea – no pun intended. They even personalised it by adding Jake’s name on the top of the handle.
He loves his new mug as he has been studying George Stephenson and the history of trains in school, and he has learnt everything the mug displays so now he thinks of himself to be somewhat of an expert which does not surprise me as he really is train mad!
The design is displayed all the way around on the mug, with a train track pattern looping round alongside with dates of historic events about trains. The quality of the mug is very high, and detailing very clear on the images.
Every evening Jake and Grace have milk and biscuits before bed, so now alongside his Disney Land Paris cup, this is his favourite new mug to use for milk and Mummy’s special hot chocolates!
Mclaggan History
The business was established in 1974 by Wally Mclaggan Smith in his garage in Helensburgh. A year later the firm moved seven miles to Jamestown at the Southern tip of Loch Lomond. After several extensions to the building over the years, the company still operates from this factory today. Each mug is printed and decorated here in the UK by their 23 cheery, hard-working, skilled and experienced staff.
Wally is now semi-retired and the firm is now owned and managed by his wife Camille and their daughter Polly. Polly’s daughter Maisie joined the company in 2016 and works with them round her University studies.
They recently won the Best Family Business Award at the inaugural West Dunbartonshire Business Award dinner in Clydebank. They are thrilled with this award.
If you are starting your Christmas shopping early, or looking for something different, Mclaggan will have a mug for it. Everyone loves having a cuppa in a nice cup and Mclaggan won’t let you down. So who will you be buying one for?
