A Practical Present – Tunisian Crochet Hooks

Tunisian Crochet Hooks

We don’t usually do presents for Valentines Day, as we know how much we love each other and often say the words. As I wasn’t expecting anything for Valentines Day, I was very surprised on Thursday, of last week, when Grand Dad Al presented me with a parcel. It was something I’ve been after for a while. Some Tunisian crochet hooks. I discover this type of crochet just before Christmas after coming across a video on You Tube.

The hooks are like a normal knitting needle but with a crochet hook on the end.

Tunisian Crochet is a completely different technique. Where as in crochet you always have one stitch on your hook, you can have multiple on your Tunisian hook – hence it needing to be longer.

In addition the crochet is a lot thicker so perfect for blankets or afghans, rugs or even a thick sweater or bag. I only know the basic stitch, at the moment, but I’m getting better at doing it. Once I think I’m ready I’ll try a different stitch and maybe have a go at making something for the grand children.

I have also found myself using them for “normal” crochet as I find the balance of the hooks easy to use.

I’m presuming he bought them off Ebay, or it could have been Aliexpress, as I know they came from China and didn’t arrive in time. Don’t you think they are so much better than a box of chocolates – although as a chocoholic I would have been chuffed with that too.

I can’t wait to start making something for the family with them, no idea what as yet. I’m still crocheting for the soon to arrive grand daughter. You can see somethings I’ve crocheted for her Fresh of My Hook and Crochet Hat & Poncho

Have you used these hooks? Whats on or fresh off your hooks/needles?

That’s all I’ve managed so far. But found myself using them for “normal” crochet, they seem to balance in my hand better. My hand/arm doesn’t get as tired.
Not sure what to make as my first project with them yet. Jane x
