I’ve decided to honour National Day’s Not Saints days but all the odd, weird, funny National Days we hear about on the web.
So today is #NationalDay of the Newspaper Delivery Boy or Girl.
Newspaper Delivery Day celebrates the life and hiring date of Barney Flaherty, who was the first newspaper carrier (or paperboy), hired in 1833 by Benjamin Day, who was the publisher of the New York Sun Newspaper at the time.
When some of the Family Clan were younger they delivered the local free paper, we used to get over a thousand delivered to our house on a Tuesday that had to have all their leaflets in & delivered by Wednesday night. Great during the holidays but not good on a cold winters school night.
Did you or your children deliver newspapers?

Didn’t know there was a national paperboy/girl day
Have to remember and reward our paper deliverer
I LOVE that picture. Makes me smile. I’ve never been a papergirl and nor have my children. Husband has and he used to take his puppy dog round with him.
No family members weren’t Newspaper Delivery Boy or Girl. I hadn’t heard of National Newspaper Delivery Day. We had a Newspaper Boy who just loved our dog. As he used the intercom system, and we sent pet dog down (we lived in top flat of tenement, 3rd floor) to collect the newspaper from Newspaper Delivery Boy. Boy and dog were happy, as dog got stroked for being good and helpful. Newspaper Boy got to greet and stroke dog, as well as saved energy as did not have to climb the stairs. As dog happily did so, delivered paper to us, and received a dog treat. Dogs can be Man and Boy’s Best Friend.
