ABOUT TECHNOLOGY WILL SAVE US
Technology Will Save Us are on a mission to spark the creative imagination of young people using hands on technology. Their award winning make-it-yourself kits and digital tools help kids (and the adults that love them) to make, play, code and invent using technology.
They started small, around a kitchen table, and have now built a company of 28 passionate designers, educators, engineers and problems solvers – obsessed with inspiring kids and empowering parents to become creators of technology. Tech Will Save Us have 6 different make it yourself kits and hundreds of digital tools and projects to support kids in learning through play.
Tech Will Save Us have sparked the imaginations of kids in over 87 countries around the world. Working closely with children to design their kits, engaging in large scale research projects before beginning on design & manufacture.
They often get asked about their name… and if they actually think technology will save us… The answer is that ‘we believe diverse, creative and empowered kids and families will save us and technology will be at the heart of how they do this!’
What’s in the Box?
So after receiving our Mover Kit I was very interested to learn more.
The contents of the box:-
- Mover board
- Mover casing & battery pack
- Velcro strap
- USB cable
How to Build the Mover Kit
Get kids moving, building and coding with this toy that reacts to movement with light and can be coded in infinite ways!
I lay all the parts on the table and we were ready to get started!
Next plug the battery in, close the case and turn the Mover on by pressing the button in the centre for 3 seconds
Learning how to play with your Mover.
The third slot is for the apps you download and code. You can only have one downloaded app at a time.
The Activity app is waiting for your movements and responds with different colors.
The more and longer you move, the more colors you unlock.
If you move for super long, you might even see the rarest combination of colors: rainbow!
There are 2 colors in the Bike Light app: white, so you can use it in the front of your bike, and red, so you can use it at the back.
If you press it again, you’ll go back to the Activity app.
Turn the Mover off by pressing the button for 3 seconds which is a great way at saving the battery.
Learning how to code apps.
First, you can download all sorts of apps that turn your Mover into something completely different. How about a police car? Or a night light? You can explore their gallery online to find out more of the variety here
After downloading a few apps from online, you’re ready to start coding your own.
So I made an online account on their website for Jake, I had to download a programme called Bolt, then .Net Frameware to help me programme the Mover Kit which took about 30 minutes in total to download and install.We were then able to programme our Mover to do as we like, so Jake set for it to flash orange and pink, which is his and Grace’s favourite colours.
You can programme it to flash for 2 minutes whilst you brush teeth, so it can stop flashing when 2 minutes it up!
