Contents of the box:-
2 Surprise Character molds
4 colour pouches (1 practice colour pouch)
4 surprise head pieces, 4 Surprise Faces, 4 Surprise Bellies (all in surprise bags)
4 Character stands
How We Created Our First Smooshin
First of all we inserted 3x AAA batteries into our Surprise Maker.
Step 1: To start creating our first character we used the practice pouch, which was a purple. We needed to POP the inner colour circle inside the pouch, so to do this we needed to use some great pounding techniques.
Grace founds this very funny, giving it many thumps until the purple inner circle had popped.
Step 2: MIX – Once the inner purple pouch has been popped, we now need to act fast!
We had 1 minute and 30 seconds to mix the purple colour with the clear portion (set your timer!). Ready, set, GO!
Quickly pedal, swivel, swirl, and twist the pouch to get the colour completely and thoroughly mixed. There should be no clear portion remaining!
Step 3: SQUEEZE – Now the pouch is fully mixed, we inserted the colour pouch into the Surprise Maker and twisted into lock, you must work QUICKLY! Press the bow on your Surprise Maker, this will now allow you to squeeze the mixture in it.
By using the squeeze tool, use this to squeeze the mixture into the Surprise Maker until you have got in as much as you can.
You will have 30 seconds to squeeze the contents of the colour pouch into the Surprise Maker to avoid the mixture from starting to form (harden) in the pouch. This is a simple task, just make sure you stay within the time frame.
Step 4: GROW – Leave the pouch in the Surprise Maker and wait 4 hours. Do not open the Surprise Maker to disrupt the magic! You can see that the Surpise Maker appears to be ‘cooking your Smooshins’ as Grace would say by the blue light fading on and off.
After your 4 hours are up you will now be able to unlock the Surprise Maker. Pull the pouch firmly from the top to remove and immediately discard the used pouch. You will now be left with your mystery shell.
Opening the Surprise Egg is pretty straight forward you use your squeezie tool, and slot in between the tabs to open the egg.
This mold is now best left over night, the longer you leave it the better so it can grow more.
This is where I made my first mistake, I misread the instructions and left it in the Surprise Maker over night, where I should have removed it from the Surprise Maker after 4 hours and left to one side within the mold over night. The the following morning our Smooshin was still not fully set and I would presume that it had not got enough air to complete whilst inside the Surprise Maker and we had purple slimy stuff everywhere! My mistake, but after all it was the practice pouch right… This led to our purple character only half forming but Grace still loved it!
So on our second attempt we knew exactly what to do we removed the Surprise Egg from the Surprise Maker and left the character inside the mold OVERNIGHT to grow.
Once opened you can see your mould, also with surprise packets. These will be your character’s accessories.
Our next colour was orange, following the instructions this one turned out much better!
Although some of the mixture still seemed to have been leaking alike to the first, this Smooshin was formed much better.
After opening your surprise packets, you now use these accessories on your Smooshins character which you swap and change with different characters.
There are also 4 character stands allowing you to place your completed Smooshins friends on. Which I think is great as they are a bit squidgy so I would worry that they may gather crumbs if left lying around. Simply assemble the two-part stand push your Smooshins onto them to allow them to stand on display.
Smooshins has been great fun, and Grace has loved creating them. Although they are quite messy so make sure you use a protection on your surfaces before making and keep a paper towel at hand whilst removing them from the molds for any excess leakage.
Smooshins is available from Smyths, and all good toy stores and is suitable for ages 7+
