GIVEAWAY: Rubik’s Cube – Revival and Reinvention

Parents Pick Rubik’s As One of this Year’s Top Stocking Filler

A new survey has revealed a third of all parents would choose the Rubik’s Cube as a stocking filler for kids this Christmas. The survey, which had 2,000 respondents, also included chocolate and stationery as top stocking solutions.

Rubik’s has fascinated curious minds since the 1980s, and the iconic colourful cube is enjoying a retro revival and a 2019 reinvention to boot.

Rubik's Selection of 2019 puzzles

Whether you’re looking for a small stocking filler, or a new family favourite, Rubik’s is a brand that continues to delight each generation.

Just check out the newly released range from Rubik’s, that are sure to turn an eye with their different but simply smashing new spin on the classic puzzle.

2×2 Rubik’s Cube

The 2×2 Rubik’s Cube consists of 8 corner ‘Cubies’ and operates in much the same way as its biggest brother – The Original Rubik’s Cube.

This smaller Rubik’s Cube can be more easily slipped into a pocket or bag, making this perfect puzzle for on the go. Such a great gift for younger and new puzzle enthusiasts who may not be ready for the full 3 x 3 challenge.

Rubik's 2x2 Cube

The 2×2 Rubik’s Cube might look easy – but don’t be fooled, it is still a challenge with 3,674,160 permutations but a lot of fun to be had along the way.

Rubik’s Edge

The Rubik’s Edge (RRP £9.99) is a great introduction to the new Rubik’s range. The cube is a single layer puzzle with nine cubes in the square. So quite a difference to the well known cube.

Rubik's Edge

With the Rubik’s Edge you can twist and rotate it to find the 192 possible permutations. But beware, it’s harder than you think as only the corner pieces can change position! Don’t be fooled thinking just because its thinner that it’s easier.  It really isn’t!

Rubik’s Cage

Rubiks Cage in box

Drop it. Twist it. Flip it. Win it! The Rubik’s Cage (RRP £19.99) is a fast-paced, fun game of strategy.

The aim is to get three cubes of the same colour in a row but you’ve got to watch-out as players can twist, turn and flip the cage to re-shuffle and deter their opponent.

Rubiks Cage

So quite simply, you could be trying to make your line of 3 vertically, but the cage then can be twisted, dropping your started vertical line, into a completely different side when twisted, putting a whole new spin on the game!

With 4 cubes per colour, the player with the most rows wins!

Rubik’s Orbit

The Rubik’s Orbit (RRP £14.99) is a puzzle with a twist, literally! The aim is to solve all six sides of the 360° rings to have a matching colour all the way around.

Rubik's Orbit in use

Featuring the traditional Rubik’s colours, the Orbit is an exciting update to the classic cube and it really has been a big hit with Jake and Grace. They’ve enjoyed the challenge of trying to match all the colours, but did admit defeat after a while of really giving it many spins and twists.

It has been great fun for all though and a great twist on the classic Rubik’s Cube.

Rubik’s Match

See it. Find it. Match it! Rubik’s Match (RRP £4.99) is the ultimate brain teasing card game. Players must race to build the pattern on the Challenge Cards using their own Cubie Cards. The first person to complete the pattern is the winner!

3×3 Rubik’s Cube

Classic Rubik's Cube

The 3×3 Rubik’s Cube (£12.99)  is The best-selling puzzle in history. 43 quintillion combinations and yet some people can solve it in under 5 seconds, pretty impressive right!

Its unique turning and twisting action and simple iconic colour concept keeps it the World’s number one puzzle.

Our thoughts

Rubik’s has been around a long time now, and it’s great to see it come back now for our own children (and us) to enjoy again. We have had great fun testing this new range out and they all do have the same great Rubik’s play value we have always once loved.
