#MeatMatters Challenge

Beef and lamb recipes can be quick, easy and delicious, perfect for tasty meals that the whole family loves.

Did you know that beef and lamb dishes have the additional benefit of providing protein, essential vitamins and minerals.

We have chose to take part in a #MeatMatters challenge which is sponsored by Simply Beef and Lamb. It’s all about creating and sharing our favourite beef and lamb dishes!

We are big meat eaters and would have meat about 4 or 5 times a week, whether this be a rump steak with salad and wedges, to chicken served with coleslaw, Jamaican rice and wedges. To simply using chicken strips with home made curries. Minted lamb chops are also a favourite, mmm.

I do vary my dishes up all the time to create homely meals.

Beef and Ale Stew

Our #MeatMatters dish we are going to create is a simple beef and ale stew. I really just make recipes up as I go along but gather the base ingredients and adjust as I go by taste testing.

Ingredients I gathered:-

Chantenay carrots
Leeks
2 packs of beef diced,
Brown ale (Newcastle Brown Ale, of course as we are Geordies)
Garlic Granules,
Passatta
Paprika
Salt,
Beef Gravy Granules
Pepper,
Sweet potatoes
Potatoes

How to make my Beef and Ale Stew

The recipe I would say could be used in a pan but I did mine in the slow cooker so I could stick it in and leave it for the evening meal after attending kids clubs.

First seal your beef if you are cooking in the pan, or as I was cooking in the slow cooker I just chucked my beef in raw.

Following this, I added 2 chopped onions and a pack of Chantenay carrots into the pan/slow cooker.

Using about 300ml of the brown ale and a splash of water (about 60ml) into a jug. Then I squeezed a good proportion of tomato puree, a tea spoon of garlic granules, beef gravy, paprika, and pepper.

The dish really comes together quite fast, and using the ale for the base you don’t need to use much gravy to thicken.

Pour the mixture into the pan/slow cooker giving it a good mix around then cook on high or low this wouldn’t take to long to cook in a pan about 20-30 minutes or 2-3 hours on low in the slow cooker.

The mixture comes together great, and when we came home from kids club a couple of hours later this smelled amazing. You could definitely smell the brown ale.

Making sweet potato mash

I then peeled the potatoes and sweet potatoes, chopped and put the potatoes on to boil, and steamed the sweet potato.
After 20 minutes these were ready to mash.

I mashed them together with a knob of butter and milk to make my sweet potato mash.

Served up the sweet potato mash and a good proportion or the beef and ale stew. This was so yummy! Wash your meal down with the rest of the brown ale.

With it being so easy to make, I can’t wait to make this again this week!

    What a great campaign! Mmm that looks delicious. I make this at home, but I also add a tin of baked beans. It makes the sauce more beef and the beans add another protein to the dish.
