With the very hot weather we have been having we forget about wildlife and how they are coping.
In my garden this week I found a hedgehog, I put some water out for it as it was only a young one and more than likely dehydrated.
We seem to often get hedgehogs in our garden and Grace has even named one in particular ‘Spikey Hensha’. This one wasn’t her though as this hedgehog was much smaller.

Lovely animals, we occasionally get them in our garden
It’s such a good way of making children aware of the wild life around us, even in suburban gardens. With Autumn approaching it is important to check before making a bonfire that a hedgehog isn’t setting up his Winter home in what looks like a pile of debris.
I always remember as a child, my Dad had dug a hole which he intended to put a fence post in, when creating a run for our rabbit. Next morning there was a large hedgehog stuck in the hole, my Dad spent half of the day digging a slope out of it, next night the hedgehog wandered out on its own!
This is lovely! I’ve been trying to help bumble bees this summer. Each time I see a tired bee I try to give it sugar water!
Well done on this post – hedgehogs need all the help they can get. We get many in our garden and feed them hedgehog food or cat food (chicken based) and water and also have 5 hedgehog houses in our tiny garden! Great websites to look at for more info include: Hedgehog Street or The British Hedgehog Preservation Society. There are many local hedgehog rescue centres around – always worth knowing where your nearest is incase you find an ill hedgehog.
Weve not had any hedgehogs this year – wonder why – I’LL have a look in the garden
Cute! Well done for being prepared to help. Hedgies need all the love they can get.
Aw lovely we never get hedgehogs in our garden. My kids would love it though
