Gel-a-Peel Pearly Pastel Kit Review
Make cool accessories to wear!
The Gel-a-Peel set includes 16+ design templates, 3 gel tubes, 5 designer tips, drawing sheet, cleaning tool, gel tray & accessory hardware.
There are 4 easy steps to make your Gel-a-Peel:-
- Choose a template or create your own
- pick one of the pastel colors and designer tip
- draw & wait for it to dry
- Peel, wear & share!
First we had a choice of what we would like to make. We looked at the templates and chose bracelets. After selecting we got the template and clear drawing sheet and stuck both to the table using sellotape, to prevent any movement whilst the designs are being made. After choosing our template, we have a choice of 3 Gel-a-Peel pastel colored tubes to choose from. Grace chose pink and Jake chose green.
There are many different designs you can choose from the templates, such as a choker necklace, bracelets, simple bracelets, and earrings or create something without a template!
There are different tips to choose which simply screw on to you Gel-a-Peel pen to give you different effects on your designs on your template you chose. The template will suggest which pen for you to use by displaying a number next to each section. If you refer back to the instructions sheet you will see you will have a choice of Round Tip, Star Tip, Rake Tip, Spike Effect and Rainbow Effect styles.
Press the tube tip against the clear drawing sheet and squeeze as you slowly follow the pattern. Jake was somewhat of an expert at this and followed his choice of design very well using the ‘Round Tip’. Grace with her being only 3, had help from me and we did this together, she really likes that her choice has a butterfly on it.
When you have finished using your color, remove the tip. Make sure you replace the protective plug back on, this prevents your Gel-a-Peel drying out! For your Gel-a-Peel design to work you must make sure all the gel lines, spikes, different colors and other designs are touching.
On your template it will tell you how long your design will take to dry. After waiting the time stated, use the included cleaning tool to peel it from the clear drawing sheet.
Why stop there?
There are more ways you can make your Gel-a-Peel design even more exciting! Included in your Gel-a-Peel kit is a Gel Tray. Using the Round Tip we needed to completely fill in the shapes we wanted to use. When you have filled it check underneath to make sure there are no air bubbles. If there is use the cleaning tool to push the gel into this place.
After the shapes are completely dry, loosen the edges with the cleaning tool and peel them out. All you need to do now is choose one of the designs your have made and with a dollop of gel to it and press the shape on the top to secure. All you need to do now is wait for your design to dry before you wear it. Why not make another one whilst you wait!
I really like this accessory as there is a wide selection of shapes to use and you can choose your colour Gel-a-Peel pen too. After taking them out the gel tray we are left with a shiny glimmer effect.
If you are wanting to add more than one color to your design wait 5-10 minutes before adding the additional colors to your design to allow the first color to dry slightly. There are so many choices, you will have hours of fun making different types of jewellery. We made our designs and there was still nearly a full tube of the Gel-a-Peel left.
If you happen to break a piece you have made, to repair it all you need to do is reapply gel over the broken section and wait for it to dry.
Gel-a-Peel can be used to decorate pretty much anything such as bags, accessories, ribbon to create wristbands and so much more!
Why not jazz something up you already own?! We have some sunglasses that could do with a make-over, so I put Jake and Grace to the test to make their very own custom look!
So with their plan in mind I left them to it and this was their end result!
Our Thoughts
Gel-a-Peel is aimed at age 8+, but the amount of fun that we have had creating I would say it can be used younger with help. Gel-a-peel would be great to use for festivals and days out too Creating your very own customised jewellery to stand out from the crowd.
After we have spent most of the school summer holidays so far in-doors, due to chicken pox then a sickness bug which is finally clearing, (fingers crossed). We will be decorating more accessories and taking them on big days out that I have planned for us.
We’ve reviewed some other Gel-a-Peel kits too. They are the Fashion Station and Back to School kits
Other Gel-a-Peel sets available are neon, glitter, glow in the dark and so many more sets too. You can view them on Amazon
We have had great fun making these and I’m pretty sure the re-fill sets will be on the Christmas list!
