Crochet Puff Stitch Beanie Hat
Did you see my post a few days ago on the beanie hats and a bag I’d made. I’ll link them here in case you didn’t. I mentioned I was going to try to make a puff stitch beanie. I’d never made one before so was a challenge. I didn’t have a pattern to follow, just made it up as I was watching TV.
How I Made It
I started with a magic loop, you can chain four and join if you aren’t sure with the magic loop, I put eight puff stitch, and a chain one in between each puff stitch in to the loop and joined.
Row 2: I put two puff stitches with a chain one after each stitch in each of the chain one spaces below. This increased my puff stitches to 16. Joining at the end of the round
Row 3: Was one puff stitch one chain in the chain one space below followed by two puff stitches with a chain one after each in the next chain one space, 24 puff stitches in total. Joining at the end of the round.
Row 4: Was Puff stitch chain one, repeat then two puff stitches with a chain between in the third chain one space and repeat across the row. 32 puff stitches in total. Joining the end of the round.
Row 5: Put three puff stitches chain one repeat then two in one stitch totaling 40 puff stitches. Join the round.
Row 6 – 13 was just puff stitch chain one in each space around.
Row 14 was a row of single crochet in to each stitch and space around o see if I can match then join.
Row 15 A row of double crochet all the way around.
I had planned to put a pom pom on top but I didn’t have enough of this year left so will have to go through my odd bits of balls to see if I can match any of the colours to make one as I think it needs one on top.
The Yarn
I didn’t use a whole 50g DK weight, as it was just part of a ball and I was playing with the pattern, but I do like this yarn I got from PoundWorld. It really is so soft. Great for baby garments too.
I’m quite happy with the way it turned out. What is on your needles or hook? Or do you do a different craft? Do let us know as we love to hear about what you have been making too.
If you want to send us a photo then you can do via our email. I’m going to start making a few thing for Mummy E as it will be May and Baby Nemo will be here before we know it.
I’ve got a couple of large skeins of a lovely lemony yellow that I might use to make something with. I’ve saved it for something special and there is nothing more special than a new baby.
Have you got anything on your needles or hooks you could share with us?
Nanna Jane.
I love the colours of this hat, my crocheting isnt that good to make this up, so will be showing my Aunt haha
Any 406 magic
Have you got any shade 406 left. I need about half a ball to finish a childs cardigan.
Oh Rebecca I haven’t sorry. I gave my grand daughter Olivia what was left and we made butterflies from it. Hope you find some. xxJane
