Cobra Paw from Bananagrams

Cobra Paw

Have you got ninja-like reflexes, sharp recognition skills? Mental fortitude steals the game in the stone-snatching challenge known as Cobra Paw.

As part of Asmodee UK Blogger Board Game Club we received Cobra Paw to review. The Cobra Paw is an ancient tournament of speed and mental fortitude where combatants gather in an arena to test each other’s spirit, skill and courage in honor of the Grand Shidoshi, Master Meow!

How do you play Cobra Paw?

Cobra Paw is a game that can be played with 2 to 6 players, and best suited for ages 6 years and over. Grace is fast approaching 5 and giving her a few seconds head start she really enjoyed this game too.

First we need to lay all the Clawfuku Stones on the table equally between all the players face up. The youngest player goes first so this was Grace, she grabbed the dice and gave them a roll.

As the dice are rolled you now need to search to find that matching stone displayed on the dice before the rest of the players. You must only get the stone by using your fingers, not the palm of your hand. There is a divot in the middle of each stone, so it is easy to slide your index finger on to this and bring the stone instantly to your gathered winning stones.

If two players reach it at the same time, the player with their finger the nearest to the divot on the stone wins it! You continue doing this until you have 6 stones (or 8 stones for 2 player games). The first player to snatch up the required stones wins the game and bestows honour to the Grand Shidoshi, Master Meow! Games last between 5-15 minutes. So great for those with a short attention span.

There are other variations of the game you can play to mix it up a bit, such as:-

Ghosts Of The Fallen – Remove one to five plans from the pool. When the dice roll one of these patterns, the first player to shout ‘Cobra Paw!’ gets to take a stone from the pool.

No Touchy – It is inevitable that players will strike at the wrong stone after the dice have been rolled. A player who does so is shamed, and cannot claim a stone on this turn.

Two Ninja Stand-Off – Two fearless ninjas must face each other in an epic contest to acquire 11 (or more if decided) Clarfuku Stones. ‘No Touchy’ rules apply. Only for the most spirited ninjas!

Our Thoughts

Cobra Paw by Bananagrams is a great game, we have had some great battles between us with Grace coming out the winner on our first game, maybe the five seconds head start I might have to shorten, Jake was very quick at spotting the matching stones as said that the tile pictures reminded him of the game Mahjong he likes to play with his nanna.

Cobra Paw is available to purchase from Amazon and other good toy stockist for around £15.
