Christmas Gift Guide 2018 Family Games
It really wouldn’t be Christmas without family time playing games. Here at Family Clan we love playing board games, so we thought we would put together a guide to our favourite ones for all the family. Child friendly and adult games. If you have been around our blog a little while you might have gathered by now that we love games. Board games, word games, tactical game, card games – even down to playing I spy when ever we go out in the car with family.
Here is a top 15 list we have put together of our family favourite games to play over Christmas.
Ticket To Ride
Ticket to Ride is a brilliant game. Very original, it takes a little time to pick up the basics. It’s a very tactical game, but it all comes clear the further play you make in the game. Take a train journey from one European city to another.
Googly Eyes
Googly Eyes by University Games is a hilarious drawing game that challenges your vision and leaves you googling for more! Is that an igloo or a turtle? A birthday cake or a fortress? Googly Eyes is a fun game that lets players of different ages and skill levels compete on equal terms, since the goggles make it fun and challenging for everyone.
Triominos De Luxe
Triominos De Luxe is the fascinating game variation of the well-known game of dominos, but with triangular pieces, and what a great game it is I must say! I do love a normal game of dominos, but the new Triominos De Luxe from Ideal has taken over to be my favorite of the two!
Frenetic
Frenetic is a word game based on the Periodic Table – so great for those doing sciences at school, college or university. The aim of the game is to make words just using the symbols/letters of the Periodic Table.
Word Bandit
Word Bandit is the new head spinning word-spotting game from Drumond Park where teams take it in turns to take on the one-armed bandit across different categories to find words, names, celebrities and more… each category has a number of letters to work from, find words from 12 letters with word snake; use 6 letters to find things that start with… or just 3 letters for words containing. More answers, mean more points so be quick and race round the board to win the game!
Othello
Othello Classic is the internationally acclaimed two player strategy game, that you can learn to play in a minute, but will take you a life time to master.
We love Othello Classic and have played it as a family for years, its a game that you trap and capture you opponents chips by sandwiching them with your own. You need to have most of your chips turned to your colour by the end of the game – that is it… well almost!
5 Second Rule
5 Second Rule Jr. is not as easy as you think, and you can come out with some answers that are bonkers and make no sense at all! You have to be quick, so just say whatever comes to mind and risk silly answers slipping out…because that would be funny, and we all like to laugh! It’s all in good fun with this fast-paced game where you have to shout it out!
Rummikub
What better way to bring on the festive cheer than enjoying a classic family game with your nearest and dearest!
With brilliant simplicity, Rummikub provides hours of amusement. Each game is as different as the combinations of move you choose to play.
Little Tikes Blender/Toaster
Little Tikes’ new range of games and puzzles are a fun and unique way to get children memorising, matching and moving, inspiring both active and imaginative play! Introducing young children to the concept of following rules, finding solutions and the incentive of winning.
Smart Ass
Who’s the Smart Ass among your friends and family? Find out with this outrageous, fast-paced party game by Universal Games.
Each card has 10 clues and you need to find out “who, what and where am I?” Just yell out the answer as soon as you know it. Timing is everything for the true Smart Ass. Jump in too early and you may blow your chance, wait too long and the Smart Ass next to you might steal the show.
Dobble Animals
Dobble, it’s over 50 animals, 55 cards, 8 animals per card and one, and only one, matching animals between any of the two cards. It’s up to you to find which one.
Dobble Animals is a special themed version of the award-winning visual perception card game for 2-5 players aged 4 and above that can be played by anyone, regardless of age and interests.
Monopoly
It wouldn’t be a family game list if we didn’t have Monopoly in it. No explanation needed. Monopoly is probably one of the top most family favourites at Family Clan. A game for all the family, or there is also Junior Monopoly for the younger players too.
Cards Against Humanity
Cards Against Humanity is a party game for horrible people. Unlike most of the party games you’ve played before, Cards Against Humanity is as despicable and awkward as you and your friends.
The game is simple. Each round, one player asks a question from a Black Card, and everyone else answers with their funniest White Card. This game is suited for older family members but believe me, it is really fun, we love this on Christmas Day & Boxing Day once the children have gone to bed some answers can be a bit extreme so it is best recommended for 17+ years.
Rapidough
Rapidough is a family favourite fast action, shape making, game from Drumond Park. Split in to two teams and take turns modelling from the words on the play cards, be careful as if the other team win they get to steal your dough! Can you make a model that your team can guess?
UNO
A family game that you can take anywhere, Uno has been a Family Clan favourite for decades.
UNO is the classic card game of matching colours and numbers that is easy to pick up…impossible to put down and now comes Wild Cards for added excitement.
Players take turns racing to get rid of all their cards by matching a card in their hand with the current card shown on top of the deck either by colour or number.
