Choose your own adventure: House of Danger review
The classic Choose Your Own Adventure series comes to life in this new narrative adventure game. Will you survive the House of Danger? Gather your friends for a perilous and laughter-filled adventure through the House of Danger itself. Make risky choices, collect items as you explore, and face off against dire challenges. Play again and again to uncover more secrets and different endings!
We played Choose your own adventure: House of Danger for the first time last night.
When opening the box I saw the small board and many packs of cards of varying sizes. Upon reading the instructions and setting up the board we thought it would be better to just get in and start playing. That’s not to say the rules aren’t clear, but it is just our way of learning the game.

The game starts with a brief explanation that you have to look at the reverse of the game board. You can see different images including useful items and nightmare images.

Then you turn the board over and start the game with a brief introduction of a nightmare and how you are an aspiring detective with potential psychic prevention’s or thoughts.
From this you can make varying choices on the story card. This further develops the story and takes you down different avenues.
The game also has an extra element to it with psychic skills which enable premonitions to avoid making a bad decision and potentially game over scenarios. Although it has to be said that the psychic skills starts at 3 and most of the game we were at 1. So maybe it would be nice to improve your skills more.
Whilst using the story cards you can make numerous choices. Although beware, if you make the wrong choice it has consequences of increasing your danger level. This means that you have to roll the dice. You have roll higher numbers to stop the danger level increasing more. We played 3 whole chapters and managed to pick up 2 extra items (we had 2 or 3 game over scenarios from making the wrong choices).
Our Thoughts
The game is clearly well thought out with different options and surprises at every play / story card or clue cards. The story and choices are also brilliant. You never know what may happen next even after you’ve made your choices!

Choose your own adventure: House of Danger is a game that requires a reasonable amount of concentration. As there is a lot of information to take in, but overall even though we’ve only completed 3 chapters it is a very enjoyable and interesting game. A game that is unique to us and we have never played a game like this before. We will definitely taking this game out again at our next games night. We are intrigued to learn more!
You can purchase Choose your own adventure: House of Danger from Amazon and all good games stores. Suited from 1-4 players and age 10 up this would make a great ‘game night’ choice.
