Artie the Robot
Learn to code – line by line
Artie the robot is brand new and we have been lucky enough to get our hands on him to test out just for you!
As we know that technology progresses and we really do need to keep up with it. I do think it is important that our children learn coding, I think it will be a big part of the future. But looking at codes and all sorts of jargon, it can be mind boggling, so I think starting young and learning it as you grow is something that will stick with you and not seem so daunting. If you start young, it becomes pretty much a second language.
This is where Artie the Robot helps, making drawing fun, and also learning coding as you go. There are many ways in which you can code with Artie, but starting basic is where would be best for us to start.
More about Artie
Artie 3000 is designed for kids ages 7-12. He comes pre-programmed with a variety of designs like numbers and letters, shapes, games, and line-art for colouring.
Artie 3000 is a drawing robot that helps kids learn to code. They can imagine simple or complex drawings and designs, and translate them into “drag and drop” code on any device. Kids then get to experience the payoff of watching Artie draw what the have coded. Line by line, moving forward, backward, and spinning in any direction while lifting and lowering four thin-tip, colored markers.
With a built-in Wi-Fi server, Artie is compatible with any desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smart device with no need for an internet connection to play. In addition to freeform coding, Artie comes pre-programmed with a variety of designs like numbers and letters, shapes, games, and line-art for coloring.

About Artie
Artie the Robot has built-in Wi-Fi server allowing you to control Artie from your desktop, laptop or tablet via Wi-Fi anywhere, with no internet connected required.
With his built in coding apps allowing you to access from your browser to save, load and edit your designs. He is also controllable via remote control app as well as coding programme.
With 360-degree movement he can move forward and backwards, turn and also spin in any given direction.
When Artie is in use he can use the 4 supplied pens which he will lift or lower when he creates his designs. But also most normal pens will be compatable with Artie.
Getting Started
We couldn’t wait to get started. Once out of the box, Artie needs a little help to get set up and ready for some fun coding!
I first put 4x AA batteries inside Artie, and then switched him on. On your device in the Wi-Fi section, look for Artie, by clicking this you will un-connect your Wi-Fi and connect to Artie.
We then needed to go onto our web browser and type in local.CodeWithArtie.com, this will then open the Artie User Interface (Artie UI). This is where we will now be able to give Artie instructions for him to follow.
By simply pressing the disk logo, this will open a selection of options that are pre-programmed into Artie. With many different designs and shapes that Artie will be able to create for you.
Grace and Jake were super excited to see how he works and surprisingly worked very easy! By using the Artie UI we set him in the middle of an A4 piece paper and set him off to create a Triangle.
All we needed to do now was press Run, and Artie will then be set to follow instructions to create a triangle.
Video below of Artie drawing a triangle.
So simple but so much fun, we tried so many different designs. There is also three lesson sheets included within the box. On the reverse of these there are instructions on how to code it yourself.
Here is another video of Artie hard at work creating a maze.
I’m sure you will agree that Artie 3000 is pretty fantastic and a great way for children to learn through coding.
Additional Information
Artie 3000 is noted for its unique ability to foster critical coding skills through artistic inspiration and expression. American Mensa, the world-renowned society for high-IQ individuals, has partnered with Educational Insights due to the unique skills that Artie helps teach kids. Artie will be the first robot and only the third character to ever receive an honorary Mensa card, following in the footsteps of Lisa Simpson and Mr. Peabody.
“American Mensa and the Mensa Foundation value the importance of coding in helping kids achieve to their greatest potential in this day and age,” said Trevor S. Mitchell, MBA, CEO, American Mensa. “We have fallen in love with ARTIE due to the robot’s unique ability to help develop these skills, but through artistic expression, which is too often missing in the areas of technology and coding.”
Educational Insights has collaborated with Mensa For Kids and there are ARTIE activities available on the Mensa website to develop learning activities and STEAM-based challenges that spark curiosity in coding through creativity. These activities, perfect for professional educators and parents alike. They are all downloadable from the Coding with Artie Webste
Artie’s release couldn’t be more timely, with an increased emphasis on STEM learning and its artistic counterpart, STEAM. Coding with Artie 3000 encourages both sides of the brain, building left-brain skills like basic programming, geometry, and math, while creating cool, colorful designs engages the right side of the brain.
Our Thoughts
We have really enjoyed learning with Artie, all the many designs that he can draw. We even managed to have a game of Hangman.
For being the first ever drawing robot, he is very impressive. Artie is available now from learning resources website and on Amazon website.

I do like these, very impressive to see what can be done with Artie
I Love The Concept Of This Robot But Something Tells me That after a Couple Of Weeks The Children Would probably get Bored and not want to Pursue the Coding anymore . It might be good to use in Schools Though This way the Children Do Use It and Probably Enjoy it More As They Are Not Distracted by Other Activities at School .
This looks very cool, educational and fun xx
He’s impressive – he looks fun and also educational – Definately a winner here too
