Armed Forces Day 2018
We went out at the weekend to South Shields to enjoy Armed Forces Day, the kids had such great fun. Armed Forces Day is a family fun day organised by The Bad-Landers Motorcycle Club raising money to Support Our Soldiers. Starting with cavalcade of motorbikes along the seafront into Bents Park, followed by marching troops, army, navy & air force, then veterans and cadet forces.
The day included military vehicles and many other old fashioned vehicles, kids fun fair, trade & charity stands with live music throughout the day. There were hundreds of motorbikes, scooters, trikes all showing up to show their support.
Jake having a shoot on the big machines!
And then they both got to have a sit on the Blood Bikes.
I couldn’t be prouder of what he accomplished next as I remember doing this when I was younger. He asked to go on the climbing wall, and of course we said he could. He got his safety gear on but then froze, Daddy J encouraged Jake to have a try, and he did indeed! He went really well but the stepping points seemed to be a bit distant. He got about 2/5ths of the way up (further than on the picture shows) and asked to come down. He came down really well, took his safety gear off, and then his emotions hit him. He cried and said he was really nervous. After a few minutes to settle him and show him how much of an achievement and how well he did. He was really chuffed with himself and went to school yesterday and told his friends.
After we had finished in Bents Park, we went for an unexpected visit to the beach which was over the road. So very easy, the sun was burning and the wind was high. Totally unprepared visit, but sun cream on and Jake and Grace were off to splash in the sea water and jumping over the waves with Daddy J whilst I took the back seat and enjoyed watching them. Grace also enjoyed covering Jake’s feet in sand before we left!
We had such a great day as always, we have been going to Armed Forces Day in South Shields for the past 7 years, apart from one year as it was a complete downpour!
Here is a picture of Jack back in 2011 when we visited.
After the visits, we always go to the local park and take Grace and Jake on the park train ride.
Super excited before they went on!
Grace said she felt like the queen whilst we rode as she waved to passers by.
We had a lovely day, and can’t wait for next years event already and hope the weather will be as nice again!
