National Dog Day

National Dog Day

So today is National Dog Day.

We are a nation of dog lovers, so today this seems appropriate to have a National dog day.  Although at the moment only two members of Family Clan have dogs, Daddy A & daughter M.

A 2007 survey by the University of Bristol found that 26% of UK households owned cats & 31% owned dogs. Of course dogs like humans come in all shapes & sizes from the smallest dog in the World according to the Guinness Book of Records  is a female Chihuahua called Miracle Milly, who measured 9.65 cm (3.8 in) tall on 21 February 2013 and is owned by Vanesa Semler of Dorado, Puerto Rico. Halloween 2015!

Halloween

We had an amazing night of Halloween trick or treating! After months of Jake asking when  it was and counting down the days we finally went trick or treating
Jake dressed as a skeleton and Grace dressed as a witch equipped with bags and broom stick, we took to the streets and had a lovely night.
Halloweeen
Every door that was opened Jake screamed ‘trick or treat’ definitely giving frights to others! where as Grace was unsure at 1st but she enjoyed the experience when she realised what she was getting at the end of all the knocking, with the occasional ‘ba bye’

Lovely night and they now have a supply to last them I’m sure until the next Halloween!

After having a bath both of them fell asleep watching a film within 1 hour, job well done!   Mummy H

Back to the Future Day

Back to the Future Day

Today is the day that Marty McFly travelled to in Back to the Future II, in the DeLorean altered by Doc Brown.

A worldwide cultural phenomenon and the highest-grossing film of 1985, it launched one of the most successful franchises in Universal’s history .

The first film was the highest-grossing film of 1985 and became an international phenomenon, leading to a second and third film.

Part II (1989)

The series continues as Doc Brown travels with Marty and Jennifer to the year 2015 where he has discovered Marty’s family is in ruins

Part III (1990)

After finding out that Doc Brown is trapped in 1885, Marty sets out to find the 1955 Doc to help him fix the DeLorean (which has been waiting for him in a mineshaft for 70 years) and restore it to working order.

Back to the Future Car

Remember all the things that we would have, hoverboards, laces that tied themselves, wireless & hands free video games, video glasses, cars that run on rubbish, & could fly!  They got the quiet a lot right after all.

Have a great day.

Today 4th of September is National Day

I’ve decided to honour National Day’s Not Saints days but all the odd, weird, funny National Days we hear about on the web.

So today is #NationalDay of the Newspaper Delivery Boy or Girl.

Newspaper Delivery Day celebrates the life and hiring date of Barney Flaherty, who was the first newspaper carrier (or paperboy), hired in 1833 by Benjamin Day, who was the publisher of the New York Sun Newspaper at the time.

When some of the Family Clan were younger they delivered the local free paper, we used to get over a thousand delivered to our house on a Tuesday that had to have all their leaflets in & delivered by Wednesday night.  Great during the holidays but not good on a cold winters school night.

Did you or your children deliver newspapers?

National Welsh Rarebit Day

Welsh Rarebit

I’ve decided to honour National Day’s Not Saints days but all the odd, weird, funny National Days we hear about on the web.

So today is #NationalDay of  Welsh Rarebit (or Welsh Rabbit)

Family Clan Blog Welsh Rarebit 3rd Sept 2014

Mrs Glasse, in her cookbook The Art of Cookery (first published in 1747 and last published in 1843), gives recipes for “Scotch rabbit”, “Welch rabbit” and two versions of “English rabbit”.

To make a Scotch rabbit, toast the bread very nicely on both sides, butter it, cut a slice of cheese about as big as the bread, toast it on both sides, and lay it on the bread.

To make a Welch rabbit, toast the bread on both sides, then toast the cheese on one side, lay it on the toast, and with a hot iron brown the other side. You may rub it over with mustard.

To make an English rabbit, toast the bread brown on both sides, lay it in a plate before the fire, pour a glass of red wine over it, and let it soak the wine up. Then cut some cheese very thin and lay it very thick over the bread, put it in a tin oven before the fire, and it will be toasted and browned presently. Serve it away hot.

Or do it thus. Toast the bread and soak it in the wine, set it before the fire, rub butter over the bottom of a plate, lay the cheese on, pour in two or three spoonfuls of white wine, cover it with another plate, set it over a chafing-dish of hot coals for two or three minutes, then stir it till it is done and well mixed. You may stir in a little mustard; when it is enough lay it on the bread, just brown it with a hot shovel.

Served with an egg on top, a Welsh rarebit is known as a buck rabbit or a golden buck.

Kentucky Hot Brown is a variant that adds turkey and bacon to the traditional rarebit recipe.

Welsh rarebit blended with tomato (or tomato soup) is known as Blushing Bunny

Who knew there was so many variations of cheese on toast! How do you like yours?

Today 2nd September is National Blueberry Popsicle Day

I’ve decided to honour National Day’s Not Saints days but all the odd, weird, funny National Days we hear about on the web.

So today is #NationalDay of the Blueberry Popsicle

Family Clan Blog Blueberry Popsicle Day 2nd Sept 2014

Popsicles were invented in 1905 by an eleven-year-old boy named Frank Epperson. One winter’s night he accidentally left a fruit-flavored drink with a stirring stick on his porch. In the morning, it was the frozen treat we all know and love. Frank called his invention the “Epsicle,” but the name was changed to “popsicle” eighteen year.

We call the “ice lollies” of course. but they are all very refreshing on a warm summers day.

What is your favourite flavour? Have you ever made your own ice lollies.
