Where’s Spot? By Eric Hill

Where’s Spot? – The original lift-the-flap book by Eric Hill

We have received ‘Where’s Spot?’ book to review.

In this house we are BIG Spot lovers! Our favourite puppy has always been number one since I was a little girl, and also now for Jake and Grace who love Spot too.

Eric Hill’s loveable puppy, Spot, has been an integral part of early childhood since he first appeared in the classic lift-the-flap storybook Where’s Spot? in 1980. A firm favourite with parents and pre-schoolers, Spot’s toddler like behaviour introduces children to new experiences through friendship and play. Continue reading »

Captain Pug Book by Laura James

Captain Pug – The Dog Who Sailed the Seas
by Laura James    illustrated by Eglantine Ceulemans
Captain Pug Book Review Family Clan Blog
This book is a story about a pug who wants to be a captain, but this little pug is afraid of water…
He ends up on a few mini adventures on the way…

Captain Pug starts his day being fed jam tarts for breakfast, his favourite.  His nose leads him on to a little adventure!
This book is really fun for readers, Jake who is 5 loved it, was trying to read along with some of the words he has been learning in school. Grace loved looking at the picture, she really seemed to be enjoying the story. As I read she pointed at a few of the pictures.
We like how the words would sometimes ‘swooped’, not always be in a straight line sentence, which is very appealing. It kept Jake entertained on the reading, not just the pictures.

The book is well illustrated and was also suited very well to Grace who is 2, she was able to follow the story along with me as well by using the pictures for guidance.

Book Review – Princess Phoebe Meets the Tudors

Sammy Windward Princess Phoebe Meets The TudorsSammy Winward – Princess Phoebe Meets the Tudors

You would recognise the name Sammy Winward if you are a soap fan then from the credits on the Yorkshire based soap of Emmerdale, as Katie Sudden, but she left the soap after, her character had a dramatic accident in early February this year.

Sammy maintains as if she hadn’t pursued a career in acting she would have been a historian. Her love of history comes through in her first children’s book ‘Princess Phoebe Meets the Tudors’ where the main character Phoebe meets some of the wives of Henry VIII & finds out that being a Princess isn’t just about beautiful handbags, glittery high-heeled shoes & sparkly dresses.

She finds a magic book whilst tidying up her mothers dresses after playing dress up. The book whisks her through time to explore the lives of the Tudor Queen’s Anne Boleyn, Jane Grey, Mary I and Elizabeth I.  The book is factually correct, but shows, what could have been, the interaction between the four ladies. Hopefully we will read more about Princess Phoebe’s adventures in future books by Sammy Winward.

The character of Princess Phoebe is dedicated to Sammy’s own real-life princess – her ten-year-old daughter, Mia, who is following in her mother’s footsteps with a love of history.

The book is beautifully illustrated by Eric Heyman & published by Candy Jar Books, it retails at £6.99 & aimed at children from the age of 8 upwards & can be purchased from Amazon, Waterstones or other book sellers.

About the Author

Sammy Winward was born 12 October 1985, Bolton, Lancashire, she is an English actress, singer & model who attended Bolton’s Turton Media a& Arts College in Bromley Cross. It was during her training as a ballerina that Sammy was picked by her agent to attend the Emmerdale audition, where she was picked to play Katie Sugden on the soap opera Emmerdale from 2001-2015
