You may remember my post about the blanket or afghan I was making last year, well I’ve finally finished it. I know it took me a lot longer than expected, but at least I’ve finished it.
I didn’t like the border that came with the pattern so I added a little shell border to complete the pattern, It is just a five double crochet shells. I first did a round of shells with three double crochet, before adding the last row of five double crochet shells.
This was one of the things that held me up as I kept trying different borders and I just couldn’t find one that I liked. Some where too small, others over complicated and fussy, in the end I just settled for a shell stitch as I didn’t want one that would detract from the diamond pattern.
I’m quite pleased with how the blanket turned out. I just need to wash it and block it now. I have to admit I’ve never blocked my work before, I usually make clothing so this will be a challenge. Luckily I have the room to spread it out as it measures 42 inches by 38 inches.
I’m in the process of making knitting another baby blanket, but more of that soon. Yes, our family is going to grow, we are going to have a new little member soon, and this time I don’t mean fish. So excited.
Have you ever made a baby blanket? How did it turn out?
We have received Splashy the Whale game to review from John Adams
The electronic squirting, skill & action game!
”Splashy the friendly whale likes to eat anything he finds out at sea. His mouth is full of all kinds of flotsam and jetsam – fish bones, life preservers, anchors and even a submarine!
Can you help to remove these objects as Splashy bobs up and down on the ocean waves?
Carefully hook an object with the fishing rod, but if you tickle the whales tongue, you had better watch out… Splashy will squirt you with water!”
We received Splashy the Whale game to review and as soon as I had opened the delivery box, Jake was so excited as he had seen Splashy the Whale advertised on TV, he then told me all about how we play the game, before the box was even opened!
The game required 3x AA batteries so we inserted them easily underneath, then I filled the water tank which was covered by a plug which is simply put back securely into place when filled.
The fishing rod is a curved design to enable you to hook the pieces from underneath the whales tongue, but you’ve got to be careful when lifting the piece out as if it catches Splashy’s tongue he will spray water at you!
Next step was for me to empty the contents of the whales findings into its mouth and insert the fishing rod into place, then we began to play!
Youngest child always plays first so we let Grace go, she got one out straight away! You place Splashy in front of you whilst you take your turn so if you do catch his tongue, he will squirt you!
The pieces in the Splashy’s mouth are worth different point, the one who gets the most points at the end of the game is the winner. Throughout the game we try to get the higher point items, but sometimes you just have to go for the fish bones, which are worth one point, as the other pieces can be harder to get and we wouldn’t want to disturb Splashy for us to end up getting wet!
This game is so much fun, especially when you don’t know that he squirts water! We had visitors who came and Jake and Grace asked them to play and the unexpected squirts made everyone laugh. I myself have gotten squirted a few times as well, which the children found hilarious!
Jake just after Splashy squirted him
We absolutely love this game and have all agreed that it is an excellent family fun game to have.
Splashy the Whale is suited for 2+ players and aimed at ages 4 and upwards, Grace has just turned 3 and she really enjoyed this game too. so I would say it could be suitable for her age also. but just be careful due to small parts.
Available to buy here on Amazon for £15.67.
This would make an excellent Christmas or birthday present. Jake, who is 6, absolutely loves this game and keeps asking to play it every day after school.
We was sent this item to review free of charge. Our opinions are in no way swayed by this. All our reviews are our honest thoughts & feelings.
You may have noticed that we have been having problems with the website over the past couple of weeks. I thought it would be a good idea to move to a cheaper hosting site – oh how I wish I could take that back.
Poor Granddad Al has been working on fixing the site in all his spare time. We changed to one host and within two minutes we had been hacked and a large amount of extra pages had been added with content that certainly isn’t family friendly! Hopefully Al got to it before anyone opened the pages. After telling the host about this in email it was apparently our fault. We hadn’t been hacked since changing to GoDaddy hosting back in September 2014, but it was still our fault! hmmmmmm.
Anyhow to cut a long story short five hostings later we have settled on this new one which, fingers crossed, has been great.
So our apologies if you have found the site down, working weird etc. but we are now back and soon we will be having a major over haul with a new theme. We will be having a new big relaunch for our new look. We just have to decide on a theme easier said than done.
Our giveaways are still running, so go check them out.
If you spot anything broken with the website then send us a message either in an email or a comment.

I have received a pair of Henry J Socks to review. I love socks and have quite a large number of them. I have spotty ones, striped ones, fluffy ones, long one, short ones, stretchy one, plain ones, funny ones, even ones with toes in and like most people I have odd socks, (why does the washing machine only seem to eat one sock?) So when I was presented with the chance to review these socks I quickly accepted. Continue reading »
Jake and Grace had a great time playing in the Autumn falling leaves. I love the colours of this time of year all the golds and reds. Beautiful time of the year – if it isn’t raining!.
Sunday Snaps are just that, snaps, they will never be high quality framed shots, they are just capturing a moment of time or something that has been momentous during the previous week in the life of a Family Clan member.
We have received Little Tikes Cook N Learn kitchen to review by Rainbow Toy Awards, for whom we are Toy Ambassadors.
